THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER
Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

July 6th – 12th – Come to me and I will give you rest

“Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened and I will give you rest.” How we need to hear that word from Christ today and to heed it. We have never had so many time saving devices that should make life more enjoyable for us. And yet we have never been so busy! People find it so difficult to relax and be thankful for all the wonderful things of life. Our world needs the witness of people who are willing to take time for their love relationships in ways that say that this is the most important part of life. We give this witness just by taking the time for the Sunday Mass but it is so important to really take the time and not just rush in and out again. We give this witness by married couples taking time regularly for their relationship, especially by doing courses that will help them grow in love. We give this witness when parents give good time regularly to their children instead of having others look after them all the time.

Morning Prayer, when together

Father, through the obedience of Jesus, your servant and your Son,
you raised a fallen world.
Free us from sin and bring us the joy that lasts forever.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart.

Lord, let the offering of our love for one another
bring glory to your name
and bring us closer to eternal life.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together.

Father, may we never fail to praise you and each other
for the fullness of life you give us in our love for one another.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Questions for Action for the week.

For your marriage:  How do you need your wife/husband to love you and care for you during these summer months? Share that this week.

For others:  Think of some group that provides holidays for underprivileged children. How could you help them this week?

One of our major undertakings in Love is for Life Trust is working with couples preparing for marriage. It is a great joy and we have a very good residential programme for it. We have two centres going now – St. Clement’s, Belfast; Esker in Co. Galway. If you know of couples getting married in Ireland please encourage them to look up our website for dates for this year: www.loveisforlife.com
